1. Simplifying Radicals - The first type of radicals discussed in this course are square roots . Later methods for simplifying cube roots will be discussed. Often it is best to convert the radicand into prime factors when simplifying a radical :


 
 

2. Adding and subtracting radicals - Please note that only similar radicals can be combined when adding or subtracting terms involving radicals . Examples of similar radicals include ,,. Addition of these radicals is performed as follows :
