Registration and Participation Requirements

All participants are required to in the Fitness Center Sales office before
they play their first game.

The following is a list of information you are required to furnish when
you come to register:

CSUN ID card (No drivers license)
-
Current class schedule or registration card
-
Money - cash (exact change) or credit card (sorry No checks)
-
Men $25.00 - Women $15.00
-
If you do not have this information when you go to register, you will not
be allowed to register.
NO ID NO PLAY
-
Each participant must bring their CSUN ID card, with proper sticker on
it, to all games in order to participate.
-
If your ID is lost or stolen it is your responsibility to replace it before
your game. NO EXCEPTIONS
-
Driver's license or yellow slips will not be allowed
-
Yellow slips are your receipt and should be used as proof to get a replacement
sticker for half price.
Player Area and Markings
-
A ball contacting a wall, net, standard, or official's standard shall be
declared dead.
-
A ball, after being blocked or played once or twice by one team, which
then contacts an overhead obstruction or ceiling on that teams side of
the net, may be played again by that team. If a team's third hit contacts
the ceiling, the ball shall be declared dead.
-
A ball, after being blocked or played once or twice by one team which then
contacts a basketball goal (including backboard, rim, net and supports)
may be ruled a playover. The official will determine if the basket interfered
with a play that could normally be made if the object(s) were not over
the playing area. A teams third hit contacting the basket will be declared
dead.
Contest Structure
-
There are two types of regular season;
-
1 game a night - best 2 out of 3 sets, first two games are to 11 sideout
scoring and if needed a third game to 15 rally scoring.
-
2 games a night - (2) one game to 15 sideout scoring against two different
teams.
-
Playoffs are best 2 out of 3 sets, first two games are to 11 sideout scoring
and if needed a third game to 15 rally scoring.
-
A team must win the game by two points, the cap on games to 11 is 15 and
games 15 is 19.
Time-outs
-
Each team is allowed one time-out per game.
Acts Subject to Sanction
-
The following acts of players, substitutes, and spectators are subject
to sanction:
-
Disrespectfully addressing an official.
-
Making ANY profane or vulgar remarks or acts.
-
Crossing the vertical plane of the net with any part of the body with the
purpose of distracting an opponent while the ball is in play.
-
Shouting, yelling or creating a noise in a manner as to distract an opponent
who is playing, or attempting to play, a ball.
-
Shouting or taking any action conducive to distracting the officials judgment
concerning handling of the ball.
-
Offenses committed by players, substitutes, fans and/or other team members
may result in a warning, penalty, expulsion from the game or disqualification
from the match.
Number of Players
-
A team consists of six players.
-
A team may start with five players.
-
In order to win by forfeit, the winning team must have a minium of five
players in order to receive the win. If both teams are below the minium
five players, a double forfeit will be given.
Players and Substitutes
-
All players and substitutes must be listed on the scoresheet with their
ID sticker number before entering the game. Each player must present their
ID before playing.
-
Substitution(s) may be made only during a dead ball.
-
A team with more than 6 players may substitute the extra player(s) or rotate
the extra player(s) into the lineup.
-
Players may not wear jewelry and must remove rings, bracelets, watches,
dangling earrings and necklaces before entering the game.
-
All players must tennis wear shoes. Black soled shoes that leave marks
are illegal.
Rule 7 - Play and the Service
-
A player must wait for the referee's whistle before serving.
-
A player may serve overhand, sidearm or underhand.
-
The server shall not be in contact with the end line at the instant the
ball is served.
-
Players may not screen during the serve.
-
Players may not overlap at the time of the serve.
-
Center forward (3) may not be as near as the left sideline as left forward
(4) nor as near the right sideline as the right forward (2).
-
Center back (6) may not be as near the left sideline as left back (5) nor
as near the right sideline as right back (1).
-
No back line player may be as near the net as a corresponding front line
player.
Playing the Ball
-
Each team is allowed a maximum of three (3) successive contacts of the
ball in order to return the ball. A block does not count as a hit.
-
The ball may be hit with any part of the body on or above the waist.
-
A player may have successive contacts of the ball during blocking.
-
A player may have successive contacts of the ball during a single attempt
to make the first team hit of a ball coming from the opponents, even if
the ball is blocked, provided no finger action is used during the effort
and the ball is not held or thrown and it is a single attempt to play the
ball. Any other player contacting the ball more than once will be considered
as having committed a double hit.

Simultaneous contacts by opponents is legal, unless the ball is held, (a
double fault) and a replay will result.
-
A player may not attack the ball over the opponents court. A player completing
a legal attack may follow through across the plane of the net.
-
No back line player may contact the ball above the plane of the net and
direct to an opponents side unless the player is behind the attack (10
ft.) line.
-
No player may contact the net while the ball is alive and in play.
-
No player may contact the opponents side of the court unless any part of
the player's foot is on or directly above the center line. Any other part
of a player's body may not touch opponent's side of the court under the
net.
Blocking
-
Only front line players may participate in a block.
-
A player participating in a block shall have the right to make the next
contact.
-
Blocking a served ball is illegal.
-
Blocking of the ball across the net above the opponent's court shall be
legal provided that such block is:
-
After a player of the attacking team has spiked the ball, or, in the referee's
judgment, intentionally directed the ball into the opponent's court.
-
After the opponents have completed their allowable three hits.
-
After the opponents have hit the ball in such a manner that the ball would,
in the referee's judgment, clearly cross the net if not touched by a player,
provided no member of the attacking team is in a position to make a legal
play on the ball.
-
If the ball is falling near the net and no member of the attacking team
could reasonably play the ball.
