Math 150a, MWF 2pm-3:30pm JR243

The course is the introduction to calculus/math analysis. The main topics are: tangent lines; limits and continuity; differentiation: definition, basic rules, chain rule, rule for trig, exp and log functions; implicit differentiation; rates of change, max-min, related rates problems; 2nd derivative test; curve sketching; linear approximation and differentials; L'Hospital's rule; integration: definition, antidifferentiation, area; simple substitution; volume of solids by cross sections and shells; works; average value of a function. 5 credits. 3 lectures per week. PostScript (78.4K) , Adobe Acrobat (58.8K) , Latex (17K) .

The textbook for Math 150a is:
1. C. Varberg, E.J. Purcell, and S.E. Rigdon Calculus , 8-th edition, Prentice Hall, 1996.

Classes schedule:
MWF 2:00pm-3:20pm JR243.
The office hours will be MF 4:00pm--6:00pm, but you can try to talk to me MWF mornings as well.

The final is scheduled on Friday, December 10, 2004. The time is 2pm--4pm. The place will be announced later
