I interviewed Graphic Designer Nicolas Arnold as my Creative Genius. Nicolas combines colors and funk to create
amazing designs. This is our interview:

first of all, i like your questions, they dont seem to be that boring, like most of the other questions i get asked.
here we go:
1. When was the first time that you remember realizing that you are a creative person?
i dont know, my mom has always been supporting me to be creative when it came to making birthday presents for my dad. i always drew or tinkered something. many of those presents i did in my childhood still hang somewhere in my dads office or at home, on the first i obviously wasnt even able to write my name, but theres something drawn on it that looks like the house we lived in these days. my mom says i have always been drawing, although i cant remember it. the first vivid memories i have is from when i started drawing graffiti and bombing tags. that must have been in my early teenager years.
2. When did you know that this was what you wanted to do with your life? How did you get started?
pretty late. i didnt even know what to do when i almost was done with school. i only had this idea to make something involving a computer and arts, since this have been the only things i was good in in school, besides sports. so after school i started my civil service year, which you have to do as a young man in germany, when you dont wanna join the army. during that time i was in contact with friend, who started an apprenticeship in hamburg, as a multimediadesigner, for three years. that sounded like it was the right thing for my, so without catching up on it any further i asked her to provide me the adresses of the ad agencies she applied for a job interview. finally one of those company accepted me, that was 5 years ago. two and a half years later i finished that apprenticeship ahead of schedule in early 2005. then i worked as a freelance graphic designer until october in order to apply at htk - hamburg school of design and applied arts. next year i will be done with it ;)
3. What traits, if any, do you think that creative people have as compared to people who are not creative?
well, i really think there are a few. first of all i think designers and other creative people are VERY sensitive, especially when it comes to reviewing their arts. designers are very open minded and most of them are little know-it-alls in a positive way. you have to be interested in anything, politics, sports, economics and stuff like that. creative people usually are music ADDICTS, i know everybody says he likes music, but designers are obsessed. in addition to that most of the designers i know are very profound and thoughtful, the exact opposite of superficial.
in reverse, i know people who are right like that without being creative, but many of them could be, if you ask me
