The Center for Academic Preparedness at  California State University,  Northridge trained tutors to work closely with teachers in the classroom to help students develop skills in studying, taking notes, time management and critical thinking. Tutors monitored and evaluated student portfolios for each course subject. 

Tutors were trained to use collaborative learning techniques in a classroom setting. Acted as mentors to middle and high school students and helped inform students on the possibilities of higher education.
