Calculus
for the Managerial, Life and Social Sciences (5th edition), by
S. T. Tan.
We will cover the following sections of the text:
- Chapter 1.- sections 1,2,3,4
- Chapter 2.- sections 1,2,3,4,5,6
- Chapter 3.- sections 1,2,3,4,5
- Chapter 4.- sections 1,2,3,4,5
- Chapter 5.- sections 1,2,3,4,5
- Chapter 6.- sections 1,2,3,4,5
Homework
I will assign hand-in homework problems on
Wednesdays, and they will be collected the following Wednesday at the
beginning of the lecture. They will be graded and returned to
you. Solutions to homework problems will be made available before the
final exam. Late homework is not accepted under any circumstances. The
lowest homework score will be dropped from your grade.
Quizes
There will be a short in-class quiz at the end of
some of the lectures. There will not be make-up quizes, but the lowest quiz
score will be dropped.
Exams
There will be 2 midterm exams and a cumulative final.
- 1st Exam: Wednesday, March 6
- 2nd Exam: Wednesday, April 24
The FINAL EXAM is common for all sections of
Math 103. It will be on Friday, May 24, from 9 am to 11
am. (Room to be announced.)
Make-up exams
There will not be make-up exams, except in
case of extreme emergencies or exceptional circumstances. You must notify
me before the test if you are
going to miss it,
and you must bring documentation supporting your request for a
make-up. If the documentation is satisfactory, I may give the make-up.
A make-up exam will consist on a written exam plus an oral exam.
Grades
Your final grade will be determined as follows:
- 1/9 homework
- 1/9 quizes
- 2/9 each of the 2 midterms
- 1/3 final exam
I will use +/- when assigning your final grade.
Calculators
Graphing calculators are NOT ALLOWED, scientific
calculators are OK.
Important Notice
The last day to drop this class, no questions asked, is Friday, March 22. This is a Math Deptartment deadline only.
