Interviews:

Chris DeWan / Designer Awsome graphic designer and web page developer!

- Have you ever doubted your talent? If so, how did you work through your doubt?

Almost every day. Affirmation via clients, colleagues and my wife.

- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Please explain your choice.

Here's what I'm currently looking for in a place to live: Quick access to the mountains for inspiration and adventure, small to mid-sized city that has modern conveniences and a strong arts and cultural community, a place my family can thrive and be happy with good people, good food, at least one excellent skate park, a nearby ski resort and if I could walk/skate to work everyday that would be pretty nice too.

- If you could change one aspect of our society through your work, what would it be?

Of course I'd like to say "cure cancer" or "find shelter, food and water for people in need." Realistically, as a graphic designer, my role is to help build public trust and awareness for the organizations and individuals that are out there doing the work.

Paul Guerrero/Photographer

Creative Genius who lives in Quito, Ecuador. He is a photographer and uses flash to develop his own web pages!

- People regard you as a creative person. Do you agree? Please explain your answer.

I am not totally agree. I think all the persons are creative in some measure. Maybe a lot of them have a great creative potential but they don't know it, or maybe never there was someone who could help them to develop their potential. If some people regard me as a creative person maybe is because I have learned it, I learned to follow a creative process in my activities. Moreover, as a multimedia designer and photographer I effort each day to find new ways do my work. Obviously, here intervene so many things: culture level, knowledge, sensibility… Looking it from psychological point of view, I think life consists of that: to know to give the correct answer in the correct moment to the daily questions, since you wake up. The difference is in the way you do it. If you do it with all your capacity and love, your life makes sense. If you do it just for obligation, your life loses sense. Of course, always it is necessary a motivation to keep going.

 - Looking at what you have created in the past, would you change anything today? Why or why not?

No, because I think every person learn something of each phase of his life. Nevertheless, the only thing I would change is what I never did by fear.

Have you ever doubted your talent? If so, how did you work through your doubt?

Definitely. I have doubted so many times but most of them I have tried to trust in God and take the risk.

- Have you ever felt enlightened by an event in the past that has given you a new perspective on life? Please explain.

Yes, indeed some time ago I fell in a deep depression because I lost the path. I was giving more importance to material things than to the real objective: to serve people. Now, I am focused in it because I know happiness is in there.

- If you and I were to trade places, tell me one thing about yourself that I should know.

I am a little bit compulsive buying things.

If you could choose a theme song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I think it would be an instrumental song because you don't limit your imagination with the lyric of it. Could be “Four seasons” of Vivaldi. (View & hear winter)

- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Please explain your choice.

I would live here, in the same place because I know God put me here for some reason. Moreover, Ecuador is a really beautiful country.

If your creative works had an odor, what do you think they would smell like? Why?

They would smell like freshly baked bread. Because when you smell it, you always want to try it. It attracts to you powerfully . =)

If you could change one aspect of our society through your work, what would it be?

It is a very interesting question because you can say so much trough design and photography. By example, each year the World Press Photo contest presents more violent and bloody images. For many people it means that world is worst each year. For me that mean that each year there are more people worried about those problems, more people trying to say: “Hey… stop! We don't want more of this”. Photography is direct and shows facts. Design is more subtle and communicates concepts. Nevertheless, both of these arts are powerful weapons of communication.

- How do want people to remember you?

I would like people remember me like a person who knew how to love others.
