Applications are now open for PEN in the Community's Writer in Residence Program and Guest Speaker Program!

Informational Flyer HERE

The Writer in Residence Program brings a professional writer/teaching artist to an Los Angeles-area school for 12 once-a-week creative writing workshops. Student work will be published in an anthology including all school and community sites for the semester, with a culminating public reading for all participating schools. Previous sites have included Animo Pat Brown Charter High School, John Marshall High School, Manual Arts High School and many more. We will be bringing this program to two schools in fall 2016, and two schools in spring 2017. Click here for a link to the online application, or HERE for a paper application. Application deadline is April 30, 2016. The program is free of charge and open to schools in underserved communities.

The Guest Speaker Program brings a professional writer to a classroom or assembly for a one-time visit to talk about their path to becoming a writer, read from their work and answer questions about the writer's life. This is an ongoing program offered free of charge to any school, pending writer availability. Schools outside of the L.A. area can host guest speakers via Skype. Click HERE for the application.
