In December 2010, the Institute helped facilitate a multidisciplinary pilot project that would create a worksite-based wellness program for the campus community, under the direction of Dr. Steven Loy, Professor of Kinesiology. The Faculty/Staff Wellness Pilot Program ran for 8 weeks in spring 2011 and was very successful. It attracted 25 participants, most of whom reported significant improvement in a number of health- and wellness-related measures.
The primary element of the program is an on-campus class and coaching program designed to improve cardiovascular capacity, strength, and mobility, and it will ultimately incorporate the par course outdoor exercise equipment stations planned for installation on campus. The Institute has convened a campus task force to develop a long-term funding plan for the program and a sustainable model for the future.
