Universal Design Center Student Paraprofessional 

The Universal Design Center (UDC) team is seeking student workers to assist in our efforts to promote accessibility and usability standards and best practices campus wide.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The appointed student assistant will primarily assist the UDC office coordinator in the maintenance of daily office operations which include but are not limited to the following:

  •   Perform various clerical duties such as copying, running errands, answering phones and greeting visitors to the office
  • Assist in scheduling of meetings and appointments and in the scheduling and coordination of all UDC training events.
  • Assist in the tracking of office inventory and equipment
  • Assist with editing of project reports and other documents
  • Assist with office purchases
  • Fulfill office coverage needs
  • Assist with other task and projects as assigned
  • Adhere to all policies and protocols in accordance to task assignments and guidelines

In addition, the appointed student worker will perform various duties in regards to UDC Accessibility and Usability mission which include the following:

  •  Actively assist in document accessibility training events as a lab assistant and or a training specialist
  • Answer phone calls and consult with campus  community regarding best practices for document accessibility
  • Review and develop accessible documents such as Word and PDF
  • Conduct research on accessibility and usability standards and criteria in regards to document and web accessibility
  • Perform end-user and manual testing and analysis for the web application  accessibility testing projects based on accessibility testing criteria and guidelines
  • Perform assistive technology and functional testing

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current CSUN Student
  • Able to commit to at least one academic year minimum
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent grammar and proofreading skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat Professional XI
  • Ability to use a PC and Mac Platforms.
  • Ability to learn things quickly
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to take feedback and be open to constructive suggestions
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Understanding of Accessibility is a plus
  • Knowledge of HTML and web technologies is a plus.

HOURS

  •  Up to 20 hrs per week based on overall office needs.
  •  Available to work at least 4 hrs. per day.

CLASSIFICATION

Student Assistant Class II or III dependent upon skillset. 

SALARY

Depending on skills and experience.  Starting wage is $10 per hour.

Web Developer and Tester Student Assistant

 The Universal Design Center (UDC) is in search of students with a technological background and an interest in web to be part of our team as a Web Developer and Tester Student Assistant.

Student Web Developer and Tester (PDF)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  •  Develop, implement, and test codes for web pages using web development and testing technologies
  • Perform accessibility testing and research technology solutions for posting and sharing of instructional materials, i.e. web pages
  • Perform functional testing of institutional resources on portable devices using multiple modes of device interaction
  • Create documentation of testing results, errors found, research findings and best practices
  • Assist team as needed

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required Qualifications:
    •  Registered CSUN Student able to commit at least one academic year
    •  Knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript is required
    •  Demonstrate experience with coding and scripting
    •  Ability to analyze and interpret webpages source codes
    •  Team player
    •  Strategic thinker and problem solver
 Preferred Qualifications
    •  Knowledge of Html 5, css3, jQuery UI is a plus
    •  Knowledge of AJAX, PHP and SQL is preferred
    •  Understand web accessibility standards
    •  Engineering & Computer Science, Arts, Media & Communication, Science and Mathematics, and Business & Economics Majors Preferred. 

JOB SCHEDULE

  •   Up to 20 hrs per week based on overall office needs.

Dependent upon skills and experience. Starting wage is $12.00 per hour.
