Summer 2016

July 14: In the movie INSIDE OUT, Riley and her emotions--externalized as smaller other selves--struggle for control.

  • Ongoing: first-time freshman advisement and registration activities for new freshmen starting in fall 2016. To make sure you're ready, review CSUN's First Time Freshman Advising Checklist.
  • Ongoing through August 26 (Friday): New Student Orientation days for incoming freshmen at CSUN. Registration required.
  • Ongoing on Thursdays through September 1: Associated Students' Summer Movie Fest. Movies start at dusk on the Oviatt Lawn every Thursday all summer through September 1.

Fall 2016

  • August 24 (Wednesday) first day of academic year 2016-2017
  • August 27 (Saturday): fall classes begin (Saturday-only and Friday-Saturday classes)
  • August 29 (Monday): fall classes first weekday meeting.  After checking with your advisor, you may add, drop, swap, etc. with no permission number required through September 5 (except for restricted classes).  Read more....
  • August 30 (Tuesday): 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Associated Students Fair, Bookstore Lawn. Free student planners (and more!) for all students while supplies last. This year’s theme is “sustainability.”
  • August 31 (Wednesday): 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Matafest, Plaza del Sol, USU. Free food, live entertainment, crafts, and prizes.
  • September 1 (Thursday): President's Picnic, Bayramian Hall Lawn.  Choose lunch (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.) or dinner (5:30-7 p.m.). Free to CSUN students, faculty, and staff.
  • September 3-4 (Saturday-Sunday): no classes
  • September 5 (Monday): Labor Day. Campus closed; no classes.
  • September 6 & 7 (Tuesday & Wednesday): 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Meet the Clubs, Sierra Quad.
  • September 6-16 (Tuesday-Friday): Weeks two and three: OK to add if you have a permission number.  OK to drop (but check with your advisor!). Read more...
  • September 10 (Saturday): Matadors Day of Service, sponsored by the Matador Involvement Center. 8 a.m.-12 noon, Bayramian Hall Lawn. Sign up to participate.Leave your mark at Matadors Day of Service, including community beautification.
  • September 15 (Thursday): Freshman Convocation with keynote speaker Jon Ronson, author of the Freshman Common Reading
  • September 16 (Friday): last day to register late, add a class, drop, or change the basis of grading using online self-service (end of Week 3). Check in with your advisor first!  Read more...
  • September 21 (Wednesday): USU Tech Series begins: free beginner and advanced computer workshops. Ongoing most Wednesdays (1-2 p.m.) and Fridays (3-4 p.m.) throughout the semester. Various topics.
  • September 30 (Friday): Banned Books Readout with Pizza.  RSVP required. 12 noon-2 p.m. in the Jack and Florence Ferman Presentation Room, Oviatt Library.
  • November 5-6 (Saturday night/Sunday morning): Daylight Saving Time ends.  Turn clocks back one hour ("fall back") overnight on Saturday.
  • November 11 (Friday): Veterans Day Holiday. Campus closed; no classes.
  • November 24-27 (Thursday-Sunday): Thanksgiving Break. Campus closed; no classes.
  • November 29-30 (Tuesday-Wednesday): Freshman Celebration, USU Northridge Center. Exhibits open 9:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. both days.
