Eligibility for Tutoring
All student-athletes are eligible to receive free tutoring services from the Matador Achievement Center. We do not provide tutoring for non-athletes.
How to Become a Tutor
We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2015. Our peer tutors are currently enrolled CSUN students from all majors and disciplines. Undergraduate and graduate students that meet the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Obtained a grade of B+ or higher in desired course(s) for tutoring
Additional qualifications include:
- Tutoring experience
- Experience working with student-athletes
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
To apply to be a tutor, download a fall tutoring application (.doc) and submit your completed application, along with a current resume, to the Tutoring Coordinator, Andrea Hernandez. Applications are accepted year-round.
As part of the ongoing training of the Matador Achievement Center's tutors, Andrea Hernandez hosted the department's first tutor retreat in May of 2014. The video below demonstrates the type of interactive discussions and team building exercises that took place during the retreat.
