Eligibility for Tutoring
All student-athletes are eligible to receive free tutoring services from the Matador Achievement Center. We do not provide tutoring for non-athletes.
Spring 2015 Tutoring
Drop-in tutoring will be available starting in the third week of the Spring 2015 semester. The schedule will be posted in January; check back soon for updates.
How to Become a Tutor
We are currently accepting applications for the Spring 2015 semester. Our peer tutors are currently enrolled CSUN students from all majors and disciplines. Undergraduate and graduate students, both athletes and non-athletes, that meet the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Obtained a grade of B+ or higher in desired course(s) for tutoring
- Availability in the evenings (5-9pm) M-TH
Additional qualifications include:
- Tutoring experience
- Experience working with student-athletes
Download an application (.doc) to become a tutor. Please fill out the application in its entirety, attach a copy of your resume to the back of the application, and submit it in person to the Tutoring Coordinator, Andrea Hernandez. Applications are accepted year-round.
As part of the ongoing training of the Matador Achievement Center's tutors, Andrea Hernandez hosted the department's first tutor retreat in May of 2014. The video below demonstrates the type of interactive discussions and team building exercises that took place during the retreat.
