One Simple Way You Can Help Your Spring 2017 Students Succeed

Thursday, December 15, 2016 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Location:
Manzanita Hall Rm 130

CSUN faculty and staff are connected to one another in many ways, but perhaps the way that stands out most is our shared dedication to helping our students succeed in our classes and beyond. In this keynote address, Dr. Saundra McGuire shares an evidence-based strategy that faculty can use in their spring classes to help students improve both their learning and their grades. As a chemistry professor, she discovered the power of mixing meta-cognition pedagogical techniques with growth-minded messages. Faculty and staff who attend this session will learn about the cognitive science underlying the strategy, the impact of the strategy on student success at other universities, and how to implement the strategy in their own classes this spring.

Dr. Saundra McGuire is the Director Emerita of the Center for Academic Success and Retired Assistant Vice Chancellor and Professor of Chemistry at Louisiana State University.  She is the author of the 2015 book Teach Students How to Learn: Strategies You Can Incorporate into Any Course to Improve Student Metacognition, Study Skills, and Motivation.
