Nomination Process

How to Nominate a Title

If you would like to nominate a title for the 2016-2017 Freshman Common Reading Program at Cal State Northridge, please review the criteria to determine whether your suggestion is likely to be a good fit for our program and then fill out the online nomination form. The nomination deadline for the 2016-2017 academic year's books has passed. But you can now begin nominating books for 2017-2018; that nomination period will be open until June 1, 2016. We accept nominations from all members of the CSUN community: faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni.

Titles Nominated for 2016-2017

Here's the list of titles nominated for 2016-2017.  Nominations are still open, so fill out the nomination form and we'll add your title.

How We Pick the Books

The Freshman Common Reading Selection Committee members volunteer their service each year. CSUN students, staff, and faculty who would like to join next year's committee are welcome to contact Cheryl Spector on campus at x3932 or via email at before mid-October. CSUN freshmen have offered crucial advice in recent years and are warmly welcome to help us select next year's book.

The Committee typically meets twice: once in October to choose a short list of four to six finalists from the list of nominated titles; and a second time in January to select from the short list the winning title for the upcoming academic year.
