Nomination Process

How to Nominate a Title

If you would like to nominate a title for the 2019-2020 Freshman Common Reading Program at Cal State Northridge, please review the criteria to determine whether your suggestion is likely to be a good fit for our program and then fill out the online nomination form. Note the deadline for nominations: nominations for 2019-2020 will close on June 1, 2018. (The nomination deadline for 2018-2019 was July 1, 2017)

We accept nominations from all members of the CSUN community: faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni.

Titles Nominated for 2018-2019

Here's the complete list of the fifteen titles nominated for 2018-2019. The committee will meet in October 2017 to determine the finalist and choose a winner in January 2018.

How We Pick the Books

The Freshman Common Reading Selection Committee members volunteer their service each year. CSUN students, staff, and faculty who would like to join next year's committee are welcome to contact Susanna Eng-Ziskin on campus at x4679 or via email at susanna.eng@csun.edu before mid-October. CSUN freshmen have offered crucial advice in recent years and are warmly welcome to help us select next year's book.

The Committee typically meets twice: once in October to choose a short list of finalists from the list of nominated titles; and a second time in January to select from the short list the winning title for the upcoming academic year.
