The mission of the newly created Center for Innovative & Engaged Learning Opportunities (CIELO) is to enhance teaching in support of meaningful, deep and sustained learning experiences while supporting the scholarship of teaching, learning and engagement

General Education

CSU Northridge begins its new General Education Plan in Fall 2006. All new students for fall (first-time freshmen and new transfers) will be expected to follow Plan R and should make their class selections accordingly.

Continuing students will follow General Education Plan C but may elect to change to Plan R if it is in their interest to do so. Requirements for both General Education (GE) plans are explained in the university catalogs for the following years:

• Plan R: 2006-2008 CSUN Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog

• Plan C: 2004-2006 CSUN Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog

Freshmen and New Transfer Students

New CSUN students should discuss Plan R requirements and plan their class schedule with their academic advisor.

Continuing Students

Continuing students should compare the remaining GE course requirements in their Degree Progress Report (DPR) to the two GE plans. To view the DPR, log in at the Web Portal (www.csun.edu/ portal) and, from the Services for Students menu, select View Degree Progress Report. Continuing students will be e-mailed instructions for comparing and changing plans if desired. Students are strongly encouraged to consult an academic advisor for assistance with deciding between the plans. Students who have already applied for graduation should not normally change GE plans.
