• Pioneering inventor and entrepreneur Ernie Schaeffer has pledged $2 million to endow the Ernie Schaeffer Center on Innovation and Entrepreneurship to promote innovation and entrepreneurship-related skills in the college.
• Engineering students placed first in the state and 14th in the world in the 2004 Society of Automotive Engineers Formula competition against 1,500 students from 133 institutions.
• The National Science Foundation has ranked the college as one of the top five master's institutions in the nation for producing undergraduates who go on to obtain doctoral degrees in science and engineering.
• The Office of Naval Research awarded the Mechanical Engineering Department more than $120,000 to purchase state-of-the-art computer workstations, software and a prototyping machine.
• Enterasys Networks e-Systems Design gave the Department of Computer Science $300,000 for an Interoperability Lab, which studies how computers and computer networks relate to each other.
• The steel bridge team of the CSUN chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers was fifth in the nation in the steel bridge competition last year.
  Computer science and music faculty member Sandra Bostrom and her husband Donald, both alumni, created endowments for the Sandra Bostrom-Aguado Computer Science Scholarship and the Donald E. Bostrom Electrical and Computer Engineering Scholarship.
• California voters' approval of Proposition 55 funded $46.2 million for the construction of a new science building and $21.4 million for an Engineering and Computer Science building renovation and new equipment.
• Mechanical engineering professor Tim Fox and a team of students designed a computer and data system that will be used to help the California Air Resources Board collect data on under what condition people turn on their car air conditioners. The Board is providing $400,000 for the two-year project that will assess the impact of automotive air conditioners on the environment.
• Electrical and computer engineering professor Ray Pettit earned rare first-round approvals from the U.S. Patent Office for research at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in San Diego where he developed technology to improve satellite-to-submarine communications.
