CSUN Exhibition Offers Public Chance to Explore Work of Emerging Artists
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 29, 2008) — There aren’t often opportunities for the public to get an early glimpse of the next Andy Warhol or Gronk. Cal State Northridge’s Department of Art is offering art lovers just that chance next month with its first annual "M.F.A. Open Studios and M.A. Exhibition."
The show is scheduled to take place from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, in the university’s Art Design Center at the north end of campus between Plummer and Halsted streets east of Etiwanda Avenue.
"The event is an opportunity for the community to not only see exciting new artwork, but to also meet the artists themselves and take a look inside their studios," said associate professor of art Samantha Fields, who helped the students organize the event.
"The artists’ studio offers many insights into the work being made...sketches, source images, and works in progress elucidate the finished work that will also be on display," she said. "This event allows our students to share their work with the larger art community and to meet new people who are as interested in art as they are. Our graduate students go on to successful careers as working artists and educators, so this is a rare chance to meet these rising young talents and see their excellent work."
The exhibition will feature pieces by approximately 30 graduate art students in a variety of mediums, from photography, painting and illustration to sculpture, ceramics, graphic design, drawing, public art, video, animation and printmaking.
