CSUN Celebrates Mexican Culture through Concert

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., May 1, 2008) — Officials with Cal State Northridge’s Ballet Folklórico Aztlan invite the public to help celebrate Mexico’s rich culture at the fifth annual "Folklor de México" music and dance concert on Saturday, May 3.

The festivities include theatre, live mariachi music and folklorico dance performances representing the states of Jalisco, Guerrero, Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua and Colima. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in CSUN’s Plaza del Sol Performance Hall located on the east side of campus near Zelzah.

"As a student group, our organization works all year long to put this amazing caliber of a show together for the CSUN community," said Cindy Padilla, a representative of Ballet Folklórico. "It gives us nothing but pleasure to keep the colorful traditions of Mexico alive and well."

Ballet Folklórico Aztlan de Cal State University, Northridge is a community-based student organization. The group has performed for various campus events and at public and private schools, rest homes, churches, private functions and community events with the intention of educating the surrounding community about the rich and diverse Mexican culture.
