Bookstein Hall

Dear Nazarian College Students:

I hope your semester is off to a great start.

It was nice to see many of you at the college townhall meeting with our AS Senators, Elline Deogracias and Justin Tolchinsky, last week. If you were unable to attend, no need to worry, there are two more townhall meetings scheduled this semester on Thursday, Oct. 14th from 6pm-7pm and Wednesday, Nov. 3rd, from 6pm-7pm. More information will be distributed closer to these dates by the Associate Dean’s Office. Furthermore, I’d like to congratulate and introduce our AS senators for the 2021-22 academic year,

  • Elline is a Senior studying Business Law and currently works as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Sustainability with a focus in corporate sustainability. As Senator, her goal is to advocate for students’ basic needs, promote mentorship and student research opportunities, and provide resources for professional and personal development. Contact information: business2@csunas.org, or @deeogracias on Instagram.
  • Justin is in his Junior year studying Accounting Information Systems and will be interning with KPMG this summer in their Consulting practice. Justin’s goals as Senator include making CSUN’s resources more accessible, such as easy access to tutoring resources and connecting you to clubs/orgs that will help you develop professionally & find your career passions. Contact information: business1@csunas.org, or @justintolch on Instagram.

On another note, I’d like to remind you that invitations to join the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society will be distributed by faculty advisor, Valerie Flugge, in the coming weeks. This is a very exclusive invitation. Please do not ignore it. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is offered only to students from the top five percent of business schools, like the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, that have been accredited by AACSB International —The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Only those undergraduate students whose academic records place them in the top ten percent of the Nazarian College and who have a 3.8 G.P.A. or higher are eligible to join; graduate students must be in the top twenty percent of their class. To be invited is a great honor and membership in Beta Gamma Sigma will place you in an elite group, highlighting your academic achievements to others, including future employers, and will provide you with numerous benefits throughout your lifetime. If you have any questions, please reach out to faculty advisor Valerie Flugge (valerie.flugge@csun.edu).

Moving forward, kudos to those of you that attended the first installment of Meet the Firms and Industry Night earlier this month. Please mark your calendars for the following upcoming events and opportunities:

I want emphasize to you that we offer these co-cirricular events and programs for your benefit, to help you get ready for the world that awaits you outside of CSUN. What we teach in the classroom is absolutely necessary, but these programs will help even more in preparing you to enter the business environment as it exists today and for its evolution. As such, I strongly encourage you to participate in as many of these programs as possible.

Keep up the good work and get a head start on preparing for midterms!

Regards,

Chandra Subramaniam, Ph.D.
