To the Campus Community,
In our planning for the fall 2021 semester, CSUN has prioritized the health and safety of our campus community. Consistent with that priority, please be advised that today (April 22) the California State University joined the University of California in announcing that all CSU and UC campuses intend to require faculty, staff and students who are on campus this fall be immunized against COVID-19.
An important clarification is that this requirement will be conditioned upon full approval of one or more vaccines by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as adequate availability of the fully approved vaccines. Currently, COVID-19 vaccines have Emergency Use Authorization.
This requirement will become effective at the beginning of the fall 2021 term, or upon full FDA approval of the vaccine, whichever occurs later. Implementing this requirement will include engaging with the California State Student Association, the CSU Academic Senate and labor unions. Please read more about this announcement from the CSU here.
For our campus, the Fall 2021 Tactical Repopulation Team (TRT) has been busy planning to significantly increase face-to-face instruction, student and academic support services, and other operations that will serve as a bridge to an anticipated full return to campus for spring 2022. We recognize that this information will raise a number of questions in the campus community. We are working on the answers with the TRT and other campus partners and will communicate additional detail as soon as we can.
In the meantime, we hope that your spring semester is concluding productively and safely. Please continue to visit CSUN’s Fall Planning Gateway for the latest updates.
