Bookstein Hall

Dear Nazarian College Students:

Welcome back to campus! It is great to have you back.

While you may have different perspectives about coming back to school, please understand that the college is safer than anywhere else in the city, county or state. You should also know that more than 90% of all students and 97% of all employees are fully vaccinated. In the next month or so, most students and employees will be boosted. Those not vaccinated have opted for the religious or medical waiver and are required to be tested weekly for COVID.

Just to give some perspective, the university will be at 80% in-person instruction. At the Nazarian College, we expect to have a little less than 70% of classes in-person, about 20% fully remote and about 10% hybrid. The modality of the classes are set for the semester. Please understand that the individual instructor for your class cannot change the modality for the course, because the change happens at the university level.

Now for other announcements. As you may have heard, commencement will return back in-person this year in front of the University Library and will include all graduates of 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. For more information and to view ceremony dates and times, please visit the Commencement webpage. For students who are graduating in Spring or Summer 2022 and want to participate in the Commencement ceremomy, you must apply for graduation by March 4.

On another note, I’d like to remind you of the many scholarships we offer to continuing students, Many of the scholarships are need based and do not require a FAFSA application, others are for first-gen students while some are for underrepresented minority students. Overall, we offer a variety of scholarships including merit-based scholarships. These scholarships are supported by our generous donors who believe in you and I hope you will apply for as many as you can. The college plans to give away more than 60 scholarships totaling more than $100,000. Many more scholarships are given by the departments. Learn more and apply for college-based scholarships.

Moving on to our upcoming events. The third installment of our virtual Meet the Firms event – the largest career fair for Accounting and IS students in Southern California – will take place on March 4 and feature Corporate & Government Firms. For more information and to register, visit the event page.

We are also now officially in Bull Ring season. This competition provides students an opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial thinking to fellow students and guest judges for prize money to continue developing those ideas. Don’t miss out on the workshops, semi-final and final event. For more information, visit the Bull Ring webpage. If you’d like to participate as a competitor, applications are due by March 6.

That’s all for now! Wishing you continued success throughout the semester.

Regards,

Chandra Subramaniam, Ph.D.
