Welcome to the Official Meal Plan Website

This is where you will find information regarding the meal plan program for the 08-09 academic year. If you need information for the current Spring 2008 semester, you can contact the Meal Plan Office. The links at the end of this page will provide you with the forms you need as well as information about our program. If you do not find what you are looking for on this website, please contact the Meal Plan Office at (818) 677-2655 or mealplan@csun.edu.

Important Information to Read First

  • Housing and Meal Plan are separate offices on the CSUN campus. Please send meal plan applications and other related paperwork directly to the Meal Plan Office. Our address can be found at the bottom of this webpage.
  • Cash Services does not process meal plan applications nor can they add money to your Dining Dollars. Please contact the Meal Plan Office directly regarding everything related to the meal plan program.
  • Applying for a meal plan online is not an available option. If you would like a meal plan, your first stop should be to the Meal Plan Office or this website. All of our information is available online for download and in The Meal Plan Office. Please do not pay Cash Services any meal plan money until you have visited with the Meal Plan Office first. All universities have their own ways of doing things and you will save yourself time and effort by learning and following CSUN's. Please visit CSUN A - Z to find the website or contact information of the department you are trying to reach.

Meal Plan Options
Meal Plan Program for the 08-09 Academic Year

Contract Term
All meal plan contracts run from the date of sign-up through the end of the spring semester. If you sign up after the start of the fall semester, your meal plan charges will be pro-rated and your contract will run through the end of the spring semester.

For the upcoming 08-09 Academic Year we offer two meal plans. The two plans are identical except for the number of Dining Dollars offered with each plan. Both meal plans give you eight meal swipes per week at the on-campus dining hall, Geronimo's, which is located by Student Housing in the Satellite Student Union. The rest of the time you may purchase your meals at any of the on-campus dining locations (except Subway) using your allotment of Dining Dollars.

  • Standard Meal Plan – Gives you eight meal swipes at Geronimo's each week. Included in the meal plan price are 1400 Dining Dollars* for the year. To help you pace yourself, we give you 700 in the Fall and 700 in the Spring. This plan is equivalent to 14 meals per week.
    Cost: $2,750.00
Take $100.00 off if paid in full (see Payment Options below).
*Dining Dollars are not sold separately and Dining Hall meals cannot be converted to Dining Dollars
  • Premium Meal Plan – Gives you eight meal swipes at Geronimo's each week. Included in the meal plan price are 1800 Dining Dollars* for the year. To help you pace yourself, we give you 900 in the Fall and 900 in the Spring. This plan is equivalent to 19 meals per week.
    Cost: $3,075.00
Take $100.00 off if paid in full (see Payment Options below).
Dining Dollars are not sold separately and Dining Hall meals cannot be converted to Dining Dollars

Payment Options

There are two ways to pay for your meal plan - payment in full or installments. Here is how they work:

  • Payment in full: Submit your meal plan application to the Meal Plan Office along with cash, check, money order or credit card information in the amount of $2,650.00 or $2,975.00, depending on the plan you choose. If you are looking to save money, pre-paying your meal plan in full for the year will save you $100.00 off our regular prices. There are no monthly payments to remember to make. You just pre-pay in full and forget about it. One less thing to remember. The prices you see here are the discounted prices. Please make checks and money orders payable to The University Corporation. With this option, you will not see any meal plan charges post to your CSUN Student Account.

  • Installments: Submit your meal plan application to the Meal Plan Office along with cash, check, money order or credit card information in the amount of $343.75 or $384.38, depending on the plan you choose. This is the first payment. Please make checks and money orders payable to The University Corporation. Upon receipt, we will post the remaining seven monthly installments to your CSUN Student Account. On the first of each month, you will make a payment to University Cash Services located in the main lobby of Bayramian Hall. The total price of the meal plan after all installments have been paid is $2,750.00 a year for the Standard Plan and $3,075.00 a year for the Premium Plan.

A complete meal plan contract includes all of the application documents, signed and turned in with one of the payments outlined above or in the payment schedule below. Unfortunately, contracts that are received without a payment will be considered ‘incomplete' and sent back to the student.

The Meal Plan Office is unable to make payment plan arrangements for the first payment; however, if a student receives financial aid, the remaining installments may be taken from any award that is received.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your meal plan if:

  • You decide not to attend CSUN. You must submit a cancellation request form to the Meal Plan Office before the semester begins.

  • You withdraw from CSUN. You must submit a cancellation request form to the Meal Plan Office along with your meal plan card and a copy of your approved housing cancellation form if applicable.

  • You move out of on-campus student housing to an off-campus location. We will not cancel your meal plan unless you submit a meal plan cancellation request form to the Meal Plan Office along with your meal plan card and a copy of your approved housing cancellation form.

We will not approve cancellation requests for undocumented financial hardship, not using the meal plan, having a kitchen and deciding to cook or moving from a no-kitchen unit to a kitchen unit.

Contract Terms and Conditions

The Terms and Conditions are a part of the Meal Plan Contract and must be submitted with the meal plan application. The information is all very important and will give you valuable information about the Meal Plan Program. You will be held accountable for the information, so it is in your best interest to read and understand everything before you submit your application. If you have any questions, you are encouraged to contact the Meal Plan Office before submitting your application. To read the Terms and Conditions, please click on the link above.

Installment Option Schedule

*Please note: Making any of the monthly payments listed above does not add money to your Dining Dollars. This is an installment payment plan, not adding money to your card. The number of Dining Dollars is set at the beginning of the contract term and is included in the total of your payments. For example: if you make a February payment of $343.75, your Dining Dollars do not increase by $343.75. If you wish to increase the number of Dining Dollars you currently have, you must visit and pay the Meal Plan Office directly.

Basic Semester Costs

Please review the following to get an idea of the cost of each semester at CSUN if you live on campus and purchase a meal plan. Please make sure that you have enough resources to cover all costs.

For full-time undergraduate in-state students who contract for Fall and Spring:
Keep in mind that your tuition will change if you are a non-resident or a graduate student.
These costs do not include the expense of purchasing textbooks and other supplies or lab fees.

How Do I Purchase a Meal Plan?

Fill out a meal plan application and submit it to the Meal Plan Office along with your payment in full or first payment. Once it has been processed, we will ask you to come to the Meal Plan Office so we can take your picture and make your meal plan card. Applications are also available in the Meal Plan Office.

How Do I Increase My Dining Dollars?

Money can be added to your Dining Dollars at any time during the semester with cash, money order, Visa/MasterCard or Cashier's Check (payable to The University Corporation) as long as your account is in good standing (all payments must be current). Your parent or guardian can also call the Meal Plan Office and give their credit card information over the phone. There is no extra charge to do this and we do not accept personal checks for this transaction. Forms to do this are available in the Meal Plan Office and on the Meal Plan Website. This option is only available for students who need to increase the number of Dining Dollars on their card. It does not apply to making the monthly installment payments on your CSUN Student Account.

Please note: Adding money to Dining Dollars will increase the price of the meal plan

I Lost My Meal Plan Card

If you lose your meal plan card, you must contact the Meal Plan Office right away so that your card can be deactivated to prevent unauthorized use. The Meal Plan Office will issue you a new card with a new number and charge a $25.00 lost card fee to the Dining Dollars portion of your meal card. If you do not have enough Dining Dollars left to cover this charge, you can submit the fee with your request. Personal checks are not accepted for this transaction. You must present your CSUN ID or other picture ID in order to be issued a new card.

What Happens to My Leftover Dining Dollars?

Students will be given half of their total Dining Dollars each semester. Any Dining Dollars left over from the Fall Semester will be rolled over and added to the allotment for the Spring Semester. However, Dining Dollars do not roll over from one academic year to the next. All must be spent by the last day of your meal plan contract which is the last day of the Spring Semester. Unused Dining Dollars will be forfeited and cannot be transferred or refunded. If you leave CSUN after the end of Fall Semester and you have unspent Dining Dollars, you will lose them.

For Residents of Student Housing

  • If you select or are placed in an on-campus housing unit without a kitchen, you are required to purchase one of the available meal plans from the Meal Plan Office prior to checking into your room. Housing will not give you your room keys or allow you to choose your room until the Meal Plan Office has provided them with proof that you have purchased a meal plan. If you later move to a kitchen unit, you will retain your meal plan. If you do not want or cannot afford a meal plan, you should not accept assignment to an on-campus housing unit without kitchen facilities as there are no exceptions to this requirement. You should contact the Housing Office to see about changing your building assignment.

  • If you select or are placed in an on-campus housing unit with a kitchen, you may purchase a meal plan if you want to even though it is not required. However, once you contract with the Meal Plan Office, you must retain your meal plan for the duration of the contract period. Please read the cancellation policy first . If you are not sure if you are going to cook and shop with your room-mates, it is a good idea to wait until after the semester starts to purchase a meal plan. You can purchase a meal plan at any time after the semester starts and the price will be pro-rated.

For Students Living Off Campus

If you live off-campus, you may purchase a meal plan if you want. However, before you contract with us, please make sure that your off-campus home is close enough for you to get to the dining hall for eight meals a week and to campus to use your Dining Dollars. Once you contract with the Meal Plan Office, you must retain your meal plan for the duration of the contract period.
