Capturing and Editing Video

For this assignment, you will need to have video using a digital camcorder or using existing footage (you tube, pictures, etc.). Once you have the footage, you will edit the movie using I-movie (which is a free download for Macs). I would recommend reading the entire assignment prior to starting.

Please visit the three links below, they will show you how to create, edit, and share your Imovie. As you are watching the videos, you will not be responsible for doing everything the tutorial shows. See below for expectations. Example, he talks a lot about video editing and only certain parts pertain to you.

After watching the video, you are now ready to start.

Part 1

Capture or have existing footage (pictures, you tube videos, footage from digital camera, etc). Once you have the footage, you will want to import them into your imovie and create transitions, texts, images, sound (either music or you talking).

After you are finished making the movie, you will want to share it on YouTube. Prior to doing this, go to YouTube and get an account, because when you go to share your file as a YouTube, it will ask you for your username and password. Once the video has been uploaded to YouTube, make sure you go and make the video public. You can do this by...

1.      Sign in to your YouTube account and click the Account link located (at the top-right of any page ).
2.      Next, click the Uploaded Videos link. Click and choose the video you want to send to your friends. Then, click the Edit button.
3.      Under the Broadcasting and Sharing Options section (on the left-hand side of the page towards the bottom) you'll see Privacy options. Click the little black arrow / triangle to expand and see all your privacy options (if its not already open and you cannot see your privacy options). Make your video public

If you can not export it directly to YouTube, then share it as a Quicktime movie and it will be a file that you can manually upload to YouTube. Once the file has finished exporting as a Quicktime, log into youtube (using your google username and password), then upload your movie file.

Part 2

Now that you have created your Imovie and it is public and up on YouTube, you will go back to your web site and place it on your Media Page. On your media page, you will insert your newly created YouTube video and have it viewable on your media page.

Lastly, a few things to consider, if you want to learn how to download a youtube or pretty much any other video, click on the following you tube link and it will show you how. If you do not want to create or capture your own video and wish to use a video that is already on the web, that will be perfectly fine and the following link will show you how to download an existing video on the web (it works really well for youtube videos) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSLLimsGdnw For this, I recommend not using a popular video such as professional music videos or movie trailers, because they often have a way of shutting it down on your site.

After you upload the YouTube video, I strongly recommend for you to go and visit your site from a different computer to make sure that it is viewing and everything is working. If you try to view it from the computer that you are working at, it will probably know that it is you and therefore allow you to see the video even if you have it set as private. If it is private, then I will not be able to view it and it will be considered late. So, please go and visit your media page from a different computer.

Your finished product needs to be at least 4 minutes long and be as creative as you want. The topic does not need to be education related, but it has to have the following...

Note: When exporting, you will have a number of different options, if you are creating a video for PACT, I recommend sharing it as a .mov file. An .mov file is easy to create and easy for PACT to view
