Debates
Format for the debate will be the following...

Debate will be from 7:30-8:30 (opposing team is responsible for keeping a timer)

Each group will have a maximum of 10 minutes of uninterrupted time to introduce their point

After the introduction, there will be 30 minutes to discuss the topic

Each group will have a maximum of 1 minute to discuss their point of view and it will go back and forth for the 30 minutes.

At the end of 30 minutes, each group will have 5 minutes for closing

There will be a break of 10 minutes and a class discussion will commence regarding the debate .
Debate team will consist of 2 teams with at least 3 members on each team

One week prior to the debate, each member will bring in at least 2 articles (debate article assignment) supporting their point off view (POV). These articles will be uploaded to your web site for the class to view and also uploaded to class dropbox.

Team members are responsible for not having duplicate articles, otherwise you will only receive partial grade for turning in a duplicate article.

After the debate, debate members will independently write a persuasive paper that will be at least 1.5 pages and no more than 2 pages double-spaced, 12 point font (e.g., Times New Roman) with 1” margins all around, discussing their POV that was debated. This will be due 1 week after the debate has taken place. This paper will have at least 4 sources and follow APA format. The last debate, students will write a compare and contrast paper.
Audience will be active by participating in a quick write during the debate. Audience members will use the articles in order to complete their write up. In your write up, you will need to use at least 4 sources in your paper using APA format. The paper will be at least 1.5 pages and no more than 2 pages double-spaced, 12 point font (e.g., Times New Roman) with 1” margins all around. You will write a paper comparing and contrasting the topic discussed. (N/A spring 2013)
