Association for the Advancement of Sustainability In Higher Education
CSUN has an institutional membership to AASHE, and it is a great resource for ideas about sustainability on the campus. Anyone with a csun.edu e-mail address can open an account that will give you access to the full site. Start from the Log In link in the left menu bar, choose Create new Account, and use your csun.edu email address!!! (If you want lots and lots of ideas about what can be done on campuses, subscribe to their newsletter.

How can college students improve sustainability at their schools?
All Students
* Get connected with larger climate/sustainability networks such as the Campus Climate Challenge.
* Join a sustainability-related student group on campus or start one of your own.
* Apply to serve on a campus sustainability committee or help create a new committee.
College Students
- Apply to the United Nations Foundation's Climate Crews program to receive training on creating innovative sustainability initiatives.
- * Organize events to discuss various aspects of college sustainability.
- * Invite national sustainability leaders to speak on campus.
- * Attend relevant conferences such as the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)
- * Encourage your president to sign the Presidents Climate Commitment and/or Talloires Declaration
- * Choose to reside in your school's green dorm, if one exists. If not, ask your school to explore the possibility of creating a green dorm.

American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment
More than 550 presidents have signed the the Presidents Climate Commitment pledging to eliminate their campuses’ greenhouse gas emissions over time.
Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education
AASHE has numerous campus sustainability resources. While many of the resources are publicly accessible, if you are a student or employee at CSUN, you can use your @csun.edu email address to create an AASHE account and get access to member-only resources.
Campus Climate Challenge
The Campus Climate Challenge is the largest climate-related network of student groups on 600+ campuses across the United States and Canada.
Carbon Emissions Inventory
Clean Air-Cool Planet provides free access to a comprehensive campus carbon calculator.
EPA: Green Power Partnership
The EPA provides in-depth information on renewable energy purchasing options, including a list of the top 10 largest university buyers of green power.
National Wildlife Federation: Campus Ecology Program
The Campus Ecology Program has many resources, including a Guide to Climate Action Planning and a guide to The Business Case for Climate Leadership on Campus.
U.S. Green Building Council: LEED Program
This site includes comprehensive information about the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, as well as information about the different levels of LEED certification and access to a database of LEED projects in the United States.
