"Clothing & Food Drive" Monday, November 16, 2009—Thursday, November 19, 2009
The entire campus will be asked to donate clothing and food that will be donated to MEND. The donations will take place with the use of visual art, such that, clothing lines will be hung on the trees in the Sierra Quad where students will drape their clothes, and for the food drive, students will place their items on the staircase of the Oviatt Library from 12-2pm on Thursday, November 19, 2009.
"Box Lunches" Thursday, November 19, 2009 & Friday, November 20, 2009
On Thursday evening, students who participated in the "Homeless Village" as well as any student that would be interested will meet in the USU to prepare boxed lunches from the groceries donated from the local markets for the homeless community. On Friday morning, these same students will meet at CSUN and carpool to MEND, where we will distribute the boxed lunches to the homeless community. This event will serve as one of the actions taken to reduce poverty.
"Adopt A Family" Thursday, November 26, 2009
The Clubs, Organizations, and Departments at CSUN will be recruited to provide resources to a family in need. One organization will be matched with one family; during the months of October and November, organizations will collect resources to make a care-package for their sponsored family to have Thanksgiving.
"Culmination Event" Thursday, December 3, 2009
To celebrate and commemorate the events that our campus participated in throughout the month of November that supported the reduction of poverty, a Culmination Event will take place. At this event, awards and certificates will be presented, guest speakers will talk about what individuals can do on a daily basis to reduce poverty, a documentary that depicts the work performed at our events will be shown, and members of the homeless population, MEND, students, faculty, staff, community members and dignitaries will attend. At this event refreshments will be served and socializing will take place. The Volunteer Program will also promote the recruitment for having students join the Volunteer Program and our next issue for the Spring Semester will be announced.
