Program Introduction
Prospective Transfer Students
Planning for a Successful Transfer
Students who are planning to transfer to CSUN are encouraged to take the following steps in order to make their transfer experience a success:
- Seek advice from your counselor/advisor or a visiting transfer outreach professional during your first semester or as soon as you have earned 15 transfer credits.
- Think about and choose as early as possible the institution to which you plan to transfer and your intended academic major or degree program.
- Make use of Project ASSIST, a computerized program used for determining the transferability of your transfer coursework to your intended transfer institution if it is a California public college or university. CollegeSource is a well recognized resource for exploring degree programs and requirements for colleges and universities located throughout the United States.
- Plan out your transfer coursework in consultation with your counselor/advisor or visiting four-year college/university representative. Follow your program plan as carefully as possible.
- Become very familiar with your transfer institution's regulation and policies on fulfilling degree requirements for your major/degree program.
- Become familiar with the transfer application and admission requirements and procedures and deadlines of your intended transfer institution. Remember, each institution sets its own deadlines for admission applications, as well as housing, financial aid and scholarship. In most cases, the earlier you apply, the greater your options will be.
- Understand that courses and program requirements my change as colleges and universities attempt to keep academic majors and degree programs current. It is wise to consult frequently with you counselor/advisor at your present institution, or speak with a CSUN representative or transfer staff visiting your campus to learn of any current or proposed changes in your intended major or degree program.
