SRC Receives National Award for Purpose and Design

The Student Recreation Center (SRC) was honored with the Education Facility Design Award by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on Architecture for Education.  The award will be presented in June 2013 during the AIA National Convention in Denver, Colo. This is the eighth award received by the SRC since its first award for design received in 2009 by AIA San Fernando Valley.   Read more

SRC to Receive $200,000 Rebate for Saving Energy

The Student Recreation Center (SRC) will receive a rebate check of $226,225.80 from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) for its use of solar tubes and solar PV (photovoltaic) panels on the rooftop.  The check will be presented at the University Student Union, Inc. (USU) Board of Directors Meeting on Monday, April 15 at 12:45 p.m. in the Grand Salon.  Read more

CSUN Alumnus Helps Establish the New Student Recreation Center

CSUN alumnus of 1994, Bryan A. Green, has made a generous donation of time, expertise, and financial support towards the establishment of the new Student Recreation Center (SRC), and the recently entitled The Bryan Green Matador Training Zone. Green graduated from CSUN with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Marketing. In 1997, he founded Advantage Fitness Products (AFP) and remains its Chief Operating Officer. The company provides specialized consultation and support services across multiple facets of the health and fitness industry, including facility planning, design, equipment supply, and technical service support. The University Student Union presents The Bernie Lean Video Contest. Students are asked to show off their version of the famed “Bernie Lean” dance. NFL Buffalo Bills Running Back Fred Jackson used it as his touchdown dance and MLB Oakland Athletics rocked their team, stadium and fans with the Bernie Lean phenomenon during their race this year for the American League West title.  Read more

Professional Trainer Drenches Students

Professional trainer and former pro basketball player Michael Blanks will bring his unique personal training class, Drenched Cardio, to the Student Recreation Center (SRC) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Students will get a taste of his Body Theory gym class as part of the SRC’s new Master Class event, a five-part series of classes planned for the 2012-2013 school year. The Valley’s Biggest Recreation Center To Open At CSUN

Students will be introduced to the 138,000 square-foot Student Recreation Center (SRC) during the Grand Opening Ceremony, which will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will feature a zip-line, live DJ, Dream World Cirque performers, Capoeira performers, arcade and carnival games, photo and video booths, free healthy snacks, and inflatable sports games. The facility is jam-packed with innovative features and services for students such as “The Ridge” (a 40-foot rock-climbing wall), a 1/8-mile track that hovers around the basketball courts, and equipment that pumps energy back into the power grid. The facility will cater to the 37,000 students on campus and is staffed by 250 new student assistants. The SRC has set a goal to register 10,000 students before the Grand Opening Ceremony.    Read more
