All-U Competition

The All-University (All-U) competition is a year-long intramural sports event that encourages friendly competition among students, organizations and departments. The two teams that accumulate the most points throughout the academic year in the men’s and women’s divisions will be the All-U champions.

Eligibility

  • Participants must create a name for their All-U team. The name of an All-U team must remain the same throughout the entire year and be used for each sport in which the team competes. For example, if an All-U team is named the Matadors, all team entries must be the Matadors for all sports.

  • Teams may be comprised of independently organized students, residence halls, fraternities, sororities, departments or other student organizations. Faculty and staff also are eligible to enter the competition. In order to participate in the All-U competition, a team must compete in at least two major team sports per semester. The major team sports include basketball, dodge ball, flag football, ultimate Frisbee, slow-pitch softball, indoor soccer, outdoor soccer and volleyball.

  • Teams must submit their All-U team roster by Friday of the second full week of intramural play during the fall semester. Each player is only allowed to be on one All-U roster per academic year. Rosters are allowed a maximum of 15 players. All players must meet intramural eligibility in order to compete in All-U. Players may be substituted on the roster in the event that a player is injured or no longer meets eligibility requirements. All substitutions must be approved by the intramural coordinator.

  • To be eligible for All-U points, at least half of the members of each team must be on the All-U roster. For example, if there are 10 members on the Matadors All-U basketball team, at least 5 must be on the Matadors All-U roster.

  • Additional points can be earned by playing in coed league sports. Coed teams must adhere to the ratio rule above.
Example: team Matadors (All-U men’s team) combines with team Stars (non-All-U women’s team) for coed volleyball. The Matadors will only receive the appropriate points from that league. If there are two All-U teams combining, each team will receive the achieved points and the total points will go towards each team’s All-U standings.

Points

Points will be awarded for participation, performance, attendance at captain’s meetings, and at identified campus events. They can be subtracted for forfeits and poor sportsmanship ratings. Points will be distributed to teams at the end of each sport season.

For individual/dual sport/one-day tournaments (e.g., table tennis, badminton, etc.), a team will receive points for up to five people participating from that All-U roster.

  • Participation points

    • 50 points will be awarded to each team entered in a team sport.
    • 15 points will be given to teams with players who participate in special events/one-day tournaments hosted by the CSUN intramural sports program.
    • 15 points (or more depending on the event) will be awarded for attending selected campus events. Five or more people from the All-U team roster must attend the event.
  • Captain’s meetings

    • 10 points will be awarded for attending mandatory captain’s meetings.
    • 10 points will be deducted for unexcused absences from mandatory captain’s meetings.
  • Sportsmanship points

    • Games that end in a sportsmanship rating of a 0 or 1 will result in a deduction of 20 points.
    • 50 bonus points will be awarded to teams that do not forfeit a game during the regular season
      • A forfeit is defined as one team without enough players at the start time for the contest and/or not showing up and not providing advanced notice to the Intramural Sport Office (by phone or email) of the team’s inability to play in that contest. If notice is provided to the Intramural Office by that day or night’s deadline, the game will be considered a default and might be re-scheduled, if possible and/or necessary.
    • 25 points will be deducted for each forfeit within regular season play
      • 50 points will be deducted for a forfeit within the playoffs/post-season play
  • Performance points

    • Points are awarded to teams and individuals who place in the top eight in regular season play.
    • An entry in the A league awards more performance points than an entry in the B league. Fraternity/sorority leagues will be considered A leagues for the purpose of performance points. Sports that do not divide into A or B leagues will be considered A leagues for the purpose of performance points.
    • Bonus points will be awarded for postseason play and tournament play (i.e. all campus tournaments).
    • 10 points will be awarded to each team member who is selected to play in an all-star game
  • The men’s and women’s teams that accumulate the most points at the completion of the spring intramural sport session will be awarded the All-U trophies and have their team’s name engraved on the trophies. Both the men’s and women’s champions will be allowed to keep the trophies to display through summer break and fall semester. Each trophy must be returned at the start of the spring semester in January.

  • A maximum of 100 points can be earned per semester through participating in selected campus events during each semester.
