Termination Due to Project Expiration

The employment of Sponsored Programs employees is dependent on the continuation of the funding for the program. In case a project expires or is terminated and the employees are not reassigned to a different project, employment will be terminated. It is important to notify employees well in advance of their impending termination so they are able to make necessary preparations.

Procedure for Termination Due to Project Expiration

  1. The University Corporation - Sponsored Programs
    90 days before anticipated end of the project
    • Send letter of notification with request to prepare the closing out of the project
  2. Project Director
    70 days before anticipated end of the project
    • Notify TUC - Human Resources of Termination due to project expiration
    • Inform TUC Payroll of agreement or disagreement of Vacation Accrual amounts to be paid out to employee
  3. The University Corporation - Human Resources
    60 days before anticipated end of the project
    • Written notification of the employee that termination is pending due to project expiration
  4. Employee
    14 days before anticipated end of the project
    • Set up meeting with The University Corporation - Human Resources
  5. The University Corporation - Human Resources
    14 days - 1 day before anticipated end of the projectIf applicable, conduct "Sign-Out Meeting" with employee
    • For Employee
      Employee Separation Form, Final Check, Cobra Information
    • For CSUN - Office of Human Resources (OHR)
      Copy of Separation Paperwork
    • For TUC - Payroll
      Copy of Separation Paperwork
  6. Project Director
    Last day of Employment
    • Final Separation Meeting
    • Receive Passwords for Voice Mail, E-Mail, and Computer
    • Receive Equipment, Keys, Parking Permit, ID-Card, Pager, and Cell Phone, etc.
