Major and Option
The department offers a Degree in Business Administration with an option in Systems and Operations Management. This option develops the skills required to manage the operations of systems that produce goods or provide services. The program focuses on developing skills for problem solving, critical thinking, communication and the use of constantly changing technology that are needed to deal with the operational decisions made by managers in manufacturing, service, and government organizations. Improving the quality of manufactured products or services, selecting and implementing technology, increasing productivity, managing projects, planning and scheduling production, and constructing models representing real world systems are a few examples of the activities performed by Systems and Operations Management professionals.
In addition to completing the core requirements in the College of Business, each student in the Systems and Operations Management option is required to complete six units of course work in Decision Support Systems and Quality Management, and nine units from a variety of specialized offerings such as Computer-Based Models, Manufacturing Management Systems, Advanced Statistical Methods, Design of Operations Systems, Manufacturing Resource Planning, Global Operations Management, Computer Simulation and Project Management.
