Faculty Awards, Accomplishments, and Activities

Congratulations to Professor Jose Ramos for winning in the NASW Elections. He is now California Chapter Region G Director.

Positive Parenting Program is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programs in the world, backed up by more than 30 years of ongoing research. Triple P gives parents simple and practical strategies to help them confidently manage their children's behaviour, prevent problems developing and build strong, healthy relationships. Triple P is currently used in 25 countries and has been shown to work across cultures, socio-economic groups and in all kinds of family structure. Dr. Love has completed the research for Triple P online and has presented at the Helping Families Create Change conference and has been presented an award for her findings.

safeTALK Suicide Prevention, an EBP Training

This program will enable participants to identify and respond to people who are having thoughts of suicide and will give you the tools to connect them to necessary resources.

Many of our students as well as our faculty and staff have already taken this training and have been certified. Make sure to look out for emails regarding future opportunities to take the training. It's free!

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has awarded Dr. Susan Love of the Social Work department a $1,179,141 grant for her project “Developing and Beta Testing Online Triple P in a Social Network Online Community to Reduce Risky Family Environments,” innovative project that builds on evidence-based approaches to addressing child maltreatment in Los Angeles and offers community-driven solutions.

Liane Mariel Schweid Memorial Scholarship accepting applications

The Financial Aid & Scholarship Department is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the Liane Mariel Schweid Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship opportunity is reserved for undergraduate students who would like to pursue a career in social work. Two students will be selected to receive a $3,000 scholarship.
