Professor Gabriela Chavira from Psychology has been awarded the Don Dorsey Excellence in Mentoring Award!

Dr. Chavira, an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology, has been named this year’s faculty recipient of the Don Dorsey Excellence in Mentoring Award!  Dr. Chavira has been a faculty member in the department since 2004 And during that time has mentored  28 undergraduate and 46 graduate students both formally as part of her research projects, through the Teacher Intern Program, or informally in the classroom and beyond.  Her mentees included: NIMH-COR scholars, Sally Casanova Pre-doctoral Scholars, McNair Scholars , NCMHD-RIMI , and EOP students. Dr. Chavira has sponsored 46 student-led conference presentations, and her students have won over 50 prestigious scholarships, fellowships, internships, and research competition awards, including three consecutive Outstanding Graduating Senior Awards, Presidential and Northridge Scholarships, SRCD Millennium Scholars Awards, and SRA Young Scholars Awards. Dr. Chavira will be honored at a ceremony for the awardees on Wednesday, November 20, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thousand Oaks Room, USU.  Congratulations Dr. Chavira!
