Research and Interests

After completing a 20-year career in the United States Air Force in 1970, Robert Cleve earned a B.A. at California State University, Northridge in 1973, and a Ph.D. in ancient Roman history at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1982. Dr. Cleve became a part-time lecturer at California State University, Northridge in 1985 and a full-time lecturer in 2008. He received the Meritorious Performance and Professional Promise Award in 1988 and was recognized in 2010 for 25 years of service to the university. Dr. Cleve has published articles in the Ancient History Bulletin (1988), the Proceedings of the International Symposium for Studies on Ancient Worlds (1988), Historia (1988) and three Western Civilization textbooks (Kendell/Hunt 2002–2004).
