History Course Sequence for Entering Freshman Students

The following are course sequences for students who enter as Freshmen at CSUN and wish to finish the History B.A. program in 4 years, earning 120 total units, consisting of 48 in History major, 52 in GE (including 9 at upper division level), 6 in Title V, and 14 in electives. While these sequences may be helpful, the History Department recommends that students meet regularly with a Department advisor, an work out an individual plan appropriate to their needs and taking account of the courses available.

Six of the required 15 units of upper division History Electives may be, subject to approval of a History faculty advisor, in closely related upper division courses outside the major.

In addition to History 497 and 498, 15 units for the major must be in 400 level courses.History 302, 303, 304, and 371 may not be used to satisfy upper division area requirements or upper division elective requirements. Students working on “Social Science” secondary teaching credential need to see History Credential advisor regarding simultaneous completion of the BA. in History and Social Science Credential.

Because a number of variable factors influence course scheduling, the History Department cannot guarantee in advance that any specific course will be available in the semester the student may wish to take it. Students should therefore plan their programs each semester with the assistance of a History faculty advisor.
