Social Science Writing Project: Writing the Basic Paragraph

Welcome to the the Social Science Writing Project. This project is an initiative to teach, encourage, inspire, and support student writing in the social sciences. During the 2014-15 academic year, the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences will host a series of  workshops on topics ranging from sentence construction, to writing a literature review, to proper citation, and many more. The ninth workshop in the series is " Writing the Basic Paragraph." All workshops are free and open to students from all majors in the college. Read more

Unpacking the Systematic Barriers of Black Males in Higher Education

Featured Speaker: Dr. Tony Ross, Vice President for Student Affairs, CSU Los Angeles

Many scholars are alarmed by the reduction in college attendance and educational attainment for African Americans. Barriers such as access, under representation, under achievement in education, stereotyping, and lack of resources contribute to this phenomenon, particularly as it relates to Black men. This lecture will unpack these factors, which affect the status of Black men in higher education and provide steps that institutions can employ to increase the enrollment, persistence, and achievement levels for this population.
