Featured Speaker: Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer, Vice President for Student Affairs, CSU Channel Islands
Our featured speaker this semester will be Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer, Vice President for Student Affairs, CSU Channel Islands. Dr. Sawyer will be a source of encouragement for campus and community engagement for our CSUN community. The theme is #Intersectionality.
Intersectionality is the "interaction of multiple identities and varied experiences of exclusion and subordination" (Howard, 2014, p. 38). Student posters range from topics such as values, fashion, fatherhood, corporate America, recidivism, k-12 impact, stereotypes in Hollywood, interracial dating, mass incarceration, masculinity, Hip Hop, etc. as it relates to the Black man or Black boys.
This event will also include a talk on understanding the Black Lives Matter movement by Dr. Anthony Ratcliff, Associate Professor in Africana Studies, with performances from musicians/ drummers, and spoken word pieces regarding identity and social justice.
This event will also feature: Students from “AFRS 325: The Black Man in Contemporary Times” presenting research posters on their work concerning Black men.
