From: Jahn, Georg Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 9:45 AM To: Sponsoredprog-l@csun.edu Subject: The University Corporation PRO-PI Initiative Sent on Behalf of Rick Evans to Principal Investigators and Research Administrators: I am excited to inform you of some changes that we have made in The University Corporation Sponsored Programs Department. As you may be aware, over the last year the Corporation has been working on the PRO-PI (Professional, Resourceful, Organized for the Principal Investigator) initiative. Our interdisciplinary working group has considered all aspects of sponsored programs with the goals of easing the burden of grants administration and improving services to Principal Investigators. We believe we have made significant strides towards these goals. As requested by many of you, we have successfully piloted a TUC credit card (or P-Card) program. We have increased the limits in our purchasing policy, thereby reducing required quotes and bids. We have implemented a procedure for multiple scheduled payments and revised our hiring procedure to reduce administrative tasks. And, we are currently working on a new sponsored programs website that will be rolled out in the near future. A key part of PRO-PI is the implementation of the ‘liaison’ organizational model. In this model, one sponsored programs team member will assist a Principal Investigator with regard to most aspects of sponsored programs from set-up of the grant through administration and close-out. For the Principal Investigator, this will mean one point of contact for most questions and concerns. This model was piloted with the College of Science and Math and proved to be so successful that we are now expanding it to all other colleges and departments. Under the leadership of Georg Jahn, Director of Sponsored Programs, beginning immediately, the following team members will act as liaisons for Principal Investigators in the following colleges/departments: Krizel Leynes (x7741) -- Science & Math Mary Jumamil (x7287) -- Social & Behavioral Sciences, Business & Economics, Engineering & Computer Sciences, University Administration Nasir Monem (x3379) -- Education (including Valley Trauma Center), Health & Human Development, Humanities, Arts, Media & Communication Mahyar Sadri (x6414) will be responsible for the following tasks on all projects: - Effort Reporting - Cost Sharing - Insurance Issues Although we expect the reorganization to go smoothly, we ask for your understanding and cooperation during the implementation phase. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Georg Jahn or any Sponsored Programs team member.
