The City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Sanitation operates three composting/
mulching facilities. The Anchorage facility, located in San Pedro/Harbor
area mulches green trimmings collected from area residents. The Griffith
Park Composting Facility composts green trimmings collected from Griffith
Park, zoo manure from the LA Zoo and biosolids from Hyperion Wastewater
Treatment Plant. The Van Norman Dam facility mulches green trimmings
collected by Street Trees Division and the Bureau of Street Services.
The mulch and compost produced by these facilities is given away free
to community organizations, residents, schools, etc.
