ASSIGNMENT: Answer the following questions and submit your answers as text in a response to the appropriate equipment and resources questions prompt on the HyperNews Discussion Group. (1) COMPARING PRICES: Obtain comparative pricing for the following items from two or more scientific supply companies.

• Price of a single Ohaus® centigram balance.
• Price per 500mL (borosilicate) beaker based upon a case of six or more beakers.

(2) SOURCES OF FREE EQUIPMENT:

• Locate a source of free equipment useful for teaching your subject.

(3) LOCAL BUSINESSES: Many companies discard equipment that may be useful for science teachers. Companies and individuals can receive credit for receive a tax-deductible donations to high school and middle school science laboratories. Use switchboard.com or yellowonline.com to locate companies near you that may be able to give you equipment. For example, car stereo companies routinely throw out old stereos that can be used in physical science rooms, for their components. For example, the magnets may be removed and used in experiments dealing with magnetism. Locate a company near you that may be able to provide you with resources useful to you and your teaching.
