How do I get funded?

Step One: Is anyone interested in supporting my idea?
We have both printed and electronic tools for finding a potential sponsor:

Printed material

Reference materials can help locate potential funders based on area of interest. We have both annual and serial publications available covering a variety of topics.

Electronic Data Bases

SPIN: the Sponsored Program Information Network, permits us to search in your specific field of interest, using "keywords" matched to your individual needs. Make an appointment with our office for a SPIN search.

SMARTS: You enroll in SMARTS by supplying your email address and selecting keywords which match your particular area of interest. Afterwards, you will receive an automatic email whenever the SPIN database flags an announcement for a program which matches one of your keywords.

Step Two: How do I get detailed information?
We will contact the funding agency with you, to ask:

  • What are the statistical chances of being funded?
  • What is the review process?
  • Do you have examples of successful proposals available?
  • What else can you tell me?

Step Three: Writing your proposal
We will help you with:

  • Narrative: We can help with drafts and make suggestions regarding organization, composition, etc.
  • Forms: We will do them for you or with you
  • Budget: We will help develop your budget
  • Logistics: We will photocopy the proposal and mail it

Step Four:
I got the grant! Now what?
The University Corporation handles fiscal matters, although we need to sign off if you decide to reallocate your budget. We will help you with operational issues as your project unfolds.
