SPIN Database

GENIUS/SMARTS Database

SPIN Search. In our office, or at your own computer, you can access the same database described above, requesting a highly specialized search. Your search can be saved to a file and/or printed.

SMARTS Database. California State University, Northridge faculty, students, and staff looking for project funding can now search the SPIN database of nearly 7,000 programs from any on-campus computer connected to the internet. SPIN provides instant access to the world of sponsored projects. The information can be sorted by funding agency, deadline date or program type. You can also access the Federal Register and Commerce Business Daily. For each agency or program, SPIN provides the sponsor, program name, deadline date, phone number, address, and a narrative description of the program. You can save the information to a file or print it.
You can now receive automatic email from the InfoEd national database, telling you about funding announcements related to your particular area of interest. With this new SMARTS enhancement, you can select keywords which will generate an email to you whenever there is a match to a deadline announcement in the InfoEd database of nearly 7,000 programs. CSUN's subscription to InfoEd permits the entire campus community to access the giant database.
SMARTS comes with an option known as GENIUS, an on-line resumé service. You can input the highlights of your resumé into the database, which will be available to industry and other academics seeking collaboration. You can enroll in SMARTS and GENIUS on-line from your on-campus computer.
The Electronic Bulletin Board (EBB) uses the same database as SMARTS. Approximately twice a month, our office will send you program announcements related to one or more of the general subject areas of science/engineering, social/behavioral science, education, or arts/humanities. These announcements have deadlines three to four months away.
