Research and Graduate Studies

Welcome to Research and Graduate Studies

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) is in the Division of Academic Affairs and reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The mission of the RGS is to offer graduate students and faculty the opportunity to engage in outstanding graduate training, academic scholarship, and research. With over $33 million in grants and contracts, we are committed to the principle that research, scholarship, and creative activity are essential to quality instruction. Our faculty’s discoveries bring fresh insight to our students and enrich the university, community, and nation. Our research activity reflects the commitment of the campus to its 58 master’s programs and two doctoral programs. CSU, Northridge ranks nationally in degrees awarded: ranked 9th in the nation in awarding master’s degrees to Hispanics (Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, 2011); 8th as the baccalaureate school of origin for doctoral degrees awarded in all disciplines from among more than 550 master's level institutions in the U.S.; and 14th in the nation as the baccalaureate school of origin for science and engineering doctoral degrees awarded between 2002 and 2011 from among more than 550 master's level institutions (NSF Survey of Earned Doctorates, 2011).

We invite you to visit our website as well as our campus to meet in person our faculty and students.
