CSUN Engineering Professor Offered Honorary Teaching Position in China
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Aug. 24 , 2005) -- Completing 25 years as a Cal State Northridge electrical engineering professor and as a leading expert in antenna research, Sembiam R. Rengarajan can add one more honor. Rengarajan has been offered a two-year honorary faculty position at The Electromagnetics Academy at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China.
Rengarajan teaches undergraduate courses in electromagnetic waves, and graduate courses in antenna engineering, microwave engineering, and numerical techniques in applied electromagnetics.
He will be spending two years at the university called “the East Cambridge”.
Zhejiang University was founded in 1897, and is comprised of 21 colleges.
It is considered one of the top five research universities in China. More than 42,000 full time students attend the university.
“It will give me an opportunity to collaborate with faculty and students in Zhejiang Univerisity. We may have possible exchanges and we may have joint research publications,” said Rengarajan.
Rengarajan says he hopes to identify topics of research, publish papers, give guest lectures and explore CSUN/ Zhejiang University exchange projects involving departments other than engineering.
S.T. Mau, dean of CSUN’s College of Engineering, and Computer Science, said it is a very fitting international recognition. “This is an important honor for Dr. Rengarajan. His achievements are well known nationally and internationally. The Electromagnetics Academy at Zhejiang University recognizes Dr. Rengarajan’s achievements in antenna research and considers him a leading expert.”
Rengarajan has served as a consultant and has held visiting appointments with the University of Denmark, Chalmers University of Technology, and UCLA. He has written more than 170 papers in engineering journals and has served as associate editor for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) publications, as chair of the Education Committee of the IEEE Society,
and as a member of the U.S. National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science.
Rengarajan received CSUN’s Preeminent Scholarly Publications Award in May. This award honors the best original written article, essay, or book by a CSUN faculty member.
Cal State Northridge's College of Engineering and Computer Science is home to several nationally recognized programs where students gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside faculty members and industry professionals on cutting-edge research.
