April Offers Chance to Catch Glimpse of Spring Sky at CSUN's Planetarium
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 21, 2006) -- Star gazers have a chance to catch a glimpse of the night skies during spring at Cal State Northridge's Bianchi Planetarium.
The first show begins at 7 p.m. and will be an examination of the stars and constellations that fill the night sky in spring. The second show, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. each Friday, will be followed by a telescope viewing of the night sky, weather permitting.
The second show offerings are:
- April 7 -- "The Voyager Encounters," in which recorded narrator Patrick Stewart shares the results of Voyager 1 and 2's visits to our solar system's outer planets and their moons.
- April 14 -- No shows.
- April 21 -- "The Search for Life in the Universe," in which recorded narrator Leonard Nimoy poses the question, "Are we alone in the universe?" The show explores attempts by humans to establish contact with extraterrestrial civilizations.
- April 28 -- "Winning the Cosmic Lottery" is an examination by JPL senior research scientist Paul Weissman of the activities of comets and asteroids in the universe. He will discuss the probabilities of any single large object hitting the Earth and the consequences if that did happen.
General admission is $5 for one show and $8 for both. Student admission is $3 for one show and $5 for both. Tickets are available at the University Student Union box office Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling the box office at (818) 677-2488.
