Author Ruth Anderson Ellenson to Share Tidbits From
The Modern Jewish Girl's Guide to Guilt
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Feb. 2, 2006)--The public is invited to join Cal State Northridge faculty, staff and students for an intimate discussion with acclaimed author Ruth Anderson Ellenson on Wednesday, Feb. 22, as she talks about her latest book, The Modern Jewish Girl's Guide to Guilt.
The discussion is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in Room 386 of Sierra Hall, located on the west side of the campus near Prairie Street and Etiwanda Avenue.
The Modern Jewish Girl's Guide to Guilt is a collection of essays by Jewish women writers about everything from pedicures on Yom Kippur to divorcing "Mr. Jewish Right." The book has received critical acclaim, including a review in the Los Angeles Times that says it contains "strong, moving stories about what it means…to be a Jewish woman in today's world." The book may be purchased at the event and autographed by the author.
Ellenson, the daughter of a rabbi and a Christian convert to Judaism, will talk about some of the fascinating incidents featured in the book. She will also answer questions from the audience.
Her appearance is sponsored by Cal State Northridge's Jewish Studies Program and the Women's Studies Department.
For more information about the talk, call CSUN's Jewish Studies Program at (818) 677-3007.
Cal State Northridge offers both a major and a minor in Jewish Studies. The program explores the rich heritage of the Jewish people. Using the methodology of different academic disciplines, it examines the experience of Jews in the many lands in which they have lived over the past 4,000 years as well as contemporary Jewish life in Israel, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
