CSUN to Host "Caregiver Wellness Day 2006"
(NORTHRIDGE,
Calif., April 7, 2006) — The Gerontology Program at Cal State
Northridge, in
collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association of Los Angeles,
Riverside and
San Bernardino Counties’ Greater San Fernando Valley Regional Office,
presents
the 5th annual “This Day’s for You” Caregiver Wellness Day
from 8:45
a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22.
Through education, relaxation,
renewal and support, the event seeks to rejuvenate those that spend
their time
caring for others.
The event will be held in
the University Student Union’s
Grand Salon, located on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St.,
Northridge.
“The purpose of the event
is to provide respite and
pampering for a day to caregivers,” said event coordinator Arturo
Montenegro,
manager of the San Fernando Valley Regional Office.
Featured speakers will include: Dr.
Dan Osterweil, medical director of S+AGE at Sherman Oaks Hospital, who
will
give an update on research and the treatment of dementia; Brenda
Avadian, creator
of TheCaregiversVoice.com, speaking on “LIFE with Alzheimer’s: Finding
the JOY
in Caregiving;” and Lori Michiel and Donna Pick, of Accent on Seniors
and
Senior Residential Choices, discussing “New Beginnings: How to Make the
Right
Decisions for Senior Living.”
In addition to line dancing with
country singer Annelle Travis, coordinators plan a drum circle and
sign-up
sessions for support groups, relaxation through guided imagery and
massages.
A $12 pre-registration fee for the
event is required, as seating is limited. Reservations should be made
by April
17. The fee will include all sessions,
resource materials, continental breakfast and lunch. Registration forms

Parking
is $4 and
available in Lot G4, on the corner of Zelzah Avenue and Prairie Street.
For caregivers who wish to attend
the event, there will be a limited amount of in-home care provided for
their
