CSUN's Jewish Studies Department to Host
Lecture on Jewish, German Relations
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif.,
April 7, 2006) — The Department of
Jewish Studies at Cal State Northridge invites the community to a
lecture on “Democracy
in Germany Today” on Tuesday, April 18
from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Los Angeles-based
attorney Honey Kessler Amado will speak about Germany’s
efforts to ensure that
its political culture remains democratic and tolerant.
The
lecture will be held in room 224 of Sierra
Hall, on the west side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.
“I will be discussing
my relationship with Germans through the portal of ‘T’shuvah,’ the
Jewish act
of repentance that would allow the healing necessary between Jews and
Germans,”
said Amado. “It is important to observe how Germans have recognized
past
actions and have made such an effort to make amends.”
Amado traveled to Germany
in 2002
as part of a small delegation from the American Jewish Committee,
hosted by the
Konrad Adenauer Foundation. This research foundation, associated with
the German
Christian Democratic Union, has participated in discussions regarding
post-Holocaust
relations between Germans and Jews and Germany
and Israel.
Parking is
$4 and available in Lot B3, off Darby Avenue.

information, contact the Jewish Studies Department at (818) 677-3007 or

Cal State
Northridge offers both a major and a minor in Jewish Studies. The
program
explores the rich heritage of the Jewish people. Using the methodology
of
different academic disciplines, it examines the experience of Jews in
the many
lands in which they have lived over the past 4,000 years, as well as
contemporary Jewish life in Israel, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
