Philosophers Gather at CSUN to Debate Race, Racism
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Sept. 16, 2005)--Academics from across North America will gather at Cal State Northridge next week to discuss the philosophical questions raised by the issues surrounding race and racism.
The "California Roundtable on Philosophy and Race" will take place on Friday, Sept. 23, and Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Whitsett Room of Sierra Hall (SH 461)and the English Reading Room of Jerome Richfield Hall (JR 319) on the west side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
Philosophers from such institutions as the University of San Francisco, American University, Canada's McGill University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Université du Québec a Montréal, as well as from Cal State Northridge, will discuss and debate such issues as the scientific status of race, veiling and Muslim women, racial politics, racism and interracial intimacy.
Each day's events will begin at 10 a.m. and go until 5:30 p.m.
