CSUN's Wellness Program Offers Exercise Classes
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 3, 2005) -- The Wellness Program at Cal State Northridge is offering new classes for faculty, staff, and community members, designed for improving movement-related ailments like lower back pain.
The classes are set to begin on Tuesday's or Thursday's at 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. or from 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. throughout the month of October. The classes are conducted in cooperation with CSUN's kinesiology and physical therapy departments as part of a research study.
Aerin Alexander, a CSUN graduate student in exercise science and instructor at Tilo Medical Center & Acupuncture clinic in Beverly Hills, will be teaching the class. She has taught physical movement exercises in Argentina and the United States for more than 20 years.
The goal of these classes is to reduce tension, improve posture and gain flexibility for people who are constantly at a desk and lack exercise throughout the day, said Alexander.
“The classes are designed to improve yourself, your health, and your quality of life,” she said.
CSUN's Wellness Program helps faculty and students in improving health issues like movement, nutrition, and blood pressure, said Shane Stycyk, assistant kinesiology professor and director of athletic training.
“I hope that people get exposed to their movement patterns. I hope this sparks an interest in the relief for back pain and rehabilitation,” he said.
The classes will be taught in the university's Redwood Hall, room 172 located on the east side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
